Paper Pumpkin August 2016 Alternative Project #3 Faux Cloisonne

I used the floral corner stamp, copper embossing powder, and ink refills to create these faux cloisonne thank you cards.

Craft with Beth: August 2016 Bold Botanicals Paper Pumpkin Kit Alternative Faux Cloisonne Thank You Card

The faux cloisonne look is made by painting ink in heat embossed leaves and flowers with ink refills. Start by stamping your image with Versamark ink. Cover the ink with the embossing powder of your choice and heat set.

Once the paper is cool, you can start painting. Add two drops of each color of ink refill you are going to use onto a large clear acrylic block or into a painter's palette tray. Squeeze a small amount of water onto the ink with an aquapainter. If you want a more vibrant color, add less water. If you want a more pastel color, add more water.

Next pick up some of the ink with the aquapainter and fill in each flower and leaf. Keep painting and picking up more ink as you run out. When you are ready to change colors, squeeze water through the aquapainter onto a paper towel to remove all ink.

Both card bases measure 4" by 8". The card on the left is made with Shimmery White cardstock. I stamped and embossed directly onto the card base. The card on the left is made with Cajun Craze cardstock. I cut a 3-3/4" by 3-3/4" piece of Shimmery White cardstock to stamp and emboss on.

For these cards, I created two color palettes. The first color palette uses the 2016-2018 In Colors and Mint Macaron.

The second color palette contains the Paper Pumpkin Kit Coordinating Colors as well as Crushed Curry, Night of Navy, and Always Artichoke.

The thank you image is stamped in Early Espresso ink and punched with a 2" circle punch. Then the edges are sponged with Flirty Flamingo and Cajun Craze, respectively.

The inside contains a beautiful thank you sentiment from Thankful Thoughts and two flowers. Thankful Thoughts is a fantastic stamp set with sentiments for both the inside and the outside of a card, making it simple and more professional.

This technique does take time but is well worth the effort! Talk about WOW factor! I hope you give the faux cloisonne technique a try!

What alternative projects have you made with the August 2016 Bold Botanicals Paper Pumpkin Kit? I would love to see what you make!

Thanks for stopping by!

Paper Pumpkin August 2016 Bold Botanicals Alternative Project #2

The second alternative project I created with a gift card holder using the emboss resist technique.

Craft with Beth: August 2016 Bold Botanicals Paper Pumpkin Kit Alternative Project Gift Card Holder Emboss Resist

First I die cut the gift card holder from Bermuda Bay cardstock. Then I cut a 2-5/8" x 3-7/8" piece of Shimmery White cardstock.

In the center of the Shimmery White cardstock, I stamped the For You image with Versamark ink. Then I heat embossed one sentiment with clear embossing powder and the other sentiment with copper embossing powder.

For this resist emboss, I used the ink refills and an aquapainter. On Clear Block E, I dropped two drops each of Bermuda Bay, Mint Macaron, and Cajun Craze. Once the paper was cool, I swished the lightest color Mint Macaron ink across the center of the sentiment. Then I swished the Bermuda Bay on top and then Cajun Craze on the bottom of the sentiment. Once all of the ink was dry, I rubbed a folded paper towel over the embossed sentiment to clean off any stray ink.

The closure is made with a 3/4" circle of Cajun Craze cardstock propped up with a dimensional.

Paper Pumpkin August 2016 Bold Botanicals Alternative Project #1

Craft with Beth: August 2016 Bold Botanicals Paper Pumpkin Kit Alternative Project Baker's Box Thank You

My first alternative project using the August 2016 Paper Pumpkin Kit Bold Botanicals is a favor box. The baker's box is embossed with the new Festive Texturized Impressions Embossing Folder (TIEF). I first die cut the baker's box. Then I embossed each piece with the TIEF oriented horizontally so the cardstock would not crack near the score lines from the die.

On the front I added the thanks image in Early Espresso ink to the center of the pre-printed circle. Above the sentiment is a cute wooden flower.

Behind is a length of burlap ribbon folded in half. I love the new burlap ribbon! I can see myself using heaps and heaps of burlap ribbon!

I am really thrilled with this month's Paper Pumpkin Kit! I really enjoy seeing each month's color combinations. Sometimes I find myself using the same colors over and over. With Paper Pumpkin, the color palette is always a surprise. Each month, expands my color theory knowledge and helps me to try unexpected color combinations.

I have some more fantastic alternative projects to share with you tomorrow!

Thanks for stopping by!
