Organizing: Embossing Powder Storage

One of my goals this year is to de-clutter, use up, and reorganize my craft room. It has gotten incredibly messy! So, messy that I am embarrassed to share a photo of its current state! Yikes!

I am working on each section, bin, and drawer in my craft room until it is fully organized! Today I worked on reorganizing my embossing powder storage. Stampin' Up!'s embossing powders come in adorable little containers. They take up almost no space at all. So, why would I need to change that?

I would love to be able to say that I can pour every last bit of embossing powder right back into the tiny clear jar when I am done embossing, but I can't. I make quite the mess. Embossing powder is everywhere even if it was no where near that area of my craft room.

I originally stored my embossing powders in square sandwich containers with a blue lid, but they took up too much precious storage space, were an awkward size, and had to be stacked to fit in the drawer. I needed to find a better way to store my embossing powders.

I was inspired by Jennifer Mcguire's way of organizing her most used-embossing powders. I purchased smaller but taller snack containers from the Container Store. These containers are also available online and in the grocery store (I just happened to be in the Container Store when I saw these were in stock). These containers take up less than half of the space the sandwich containers did, don't have to be stacked, and help minimize the mess when in use. I also like that they have clear lids. That way, I can see exactly how much embossing powder is left in each container and know when to order more.

I used a label maker to label the front of each container as well as the top of each container, so that no matter which side of my desk that I was working on or when I taught a class, I could see exactly which embossing powder was where. This was especially useful when we used the copper embossing powder and the white embossing powder during my Lovely Lily Pad class last Friday. No one accidentally used the wrong embossing powder for their projects (even though they would both be beautiful on out cards!)!

I store my embossing powders in an Alex drawer unit from Ikea that fits underneath my desk. So, the label on the top of the container is also helpful when I pull out the drawer to find whichever embossing powder I need for my project.

I use a smaller spoon to scoop out the embossing powder onto my projects. The taller sides of these containers keeps the powder from getting all over my desk. I also use a coffee filter underneath the containers to catch any mess that does make it onto my desk.

How do you store your embossing powders? I would love to hear how you organize your embossing powders and stamping supplies! Please leave a comment below (click on the pencil icon)!

Thanks for stopping by!
