Second Sunday Sketches #43 Starts Right Now!

It is time for another Second Sunday Sketches challenge! If you are new to Second Sunday Sketches, please review the rules here or below. Each second Sunday of the month, I will post a card sketch. A sketch is graphic or drawing of how the elements of a card are arranged.

You will then use the sketch as a guide to create your own card. Your card must be a new creation and reflect the challenge guidelines. Your card must include the major elements of the card sketch, such as the number of layers and the general position of the embellishments and/or die cuts. You can rotate the sketch for a top-folding card or for a side-folding card.

You choose the occasion and the color palette as well as the stamp set(s) and the embellishments. I do ask that you use Stampin' Up! products (current or retired).

The measurements will also be included in the blog post for each Second Sunday Sketches sketch challenge. You can use the measurements as given or increase them or decrease them. For example, if a greeting is stamped on a 1" circle on the sketch, but the greeting you choose is 1-3/4", then increase the size of the circle to 1-3/4". You can also change the shape. Instead of a circle, you can use an oval, a square, a daisy punch, a monogram, etc.

The challenge will run from the second Sunday of the month until the last day of that month.

If you would like to participate in the Second Sunday Sketches sketch challenge, please create a card using the sketch above and email me a photo of your card by November 30th, 2022 at 5pm EST with the subject line Second Sunday Sketches Entry. Putting this subject is the quickest way for me to see and respond to your email quickly.

Prize Drawing

The day after the last day of the month (December 1st), I will place all of the names of the participants in a proverbial hat and randomly draw a winner. The winner will receive a prize (contiguous US Residents only)! The prize each month will change and will be announced at the start of each challenge. November's Second Sunday Sketches sketch challenge prize is a surprise embellishment pack from my retired product cache and three hand-made cards from me.

Some Ideas on How to Make this Card Sketch Your Own

There are many ways to change this card to make it your own! You can rotate the card layout 90 degrees, change the banner to another shape like flowers or letters, move the banner somewhere else on the card front, make the mat layers smaller, use embossing folders to add more texture to a mat layer, and more! The center mat can be used for a technique too.

Here is a sample of how I interpreted this card sketch using Abigail Rose Designer Series Paper and the Cottage Rose stamp set. I changed the banner into the rose die cut and moved it to the lower left corner of the card front.

The Winner of the Second Sunday Sketches #42nd is...

Donna Foreman! Congratulations, Donna! Donna is the winner of the 42nd Second Sunday Sketches card sketch challenge! Your prize, a mystery embellishment pack from my retired product cache and 3 handmade cards, will be in the mail on November 2nd, 2022.

Donna's Christmas card is fabulous! I love how she used the church and trees image as the focal point. and then echoed the snow in her designer series paper and snowflake die cut embellishments! Just beautiful!

Pat used the tree punch and the plaid designer series paper for her Christmas card. The use of the gold foil oval die cut and gold ink to echo the gold foil in the designer series paper is brilliant!

The Winner of the 41st Second Sunday Sketches is...

Toni Shaw! Congratulations, Toni! Toni is the winner of the 41st Second Sunday Sketches card sketch challenge! Your prize, the a mystery embellishment pack from my retired product cache and 3 handmade cards, will be in the mail on October 4th.

Toni's card is amazing! I love way she used the diamond embossing folder for the front rectangle and the stitched rectangle dies for the second rectangle. It adds texture and dimension to her card. The color palette is a beautiful, soft combination of pink, white, and pale greens. I also love the ribbon Toni added to the greeting oval. What a lovely embellishment!

Check out the other entries for the 41st Second Sunday Sketch card challenge. Let me just say how gorgeous Donna's card is! The combination of greens, reds, yellows with hints of black and white is stunning! I love that Donna changed the shape of the oval to a rectangle with a rounded detail on the ends and two pumpkins. Instead of using a piece of cardstock for the narrow horizontal rectangle, Donna used a piece of woven ribbon.

Tracy's card is beautiful! I love how Tracy moved the horizontal rectangle and the oval to the bottom of the card front. Tracy also used a die to cut out the center of the front rectangle to make a frame around the stamped flowers in the center of the card. Love it! That is next level creativity! I am in awe of your card making talent! You are all amazing! Thank you everyone that participated in September's Second Sunday Sketches! It means so much to me that you are enjoying this sketch challenge!

You can move the main elements around the card front like change the position of the oval to the right side of the card front, change the oval to a star or a cluster of leaves, rotate the layout 90 degrees, add texture with an embossing folder or glitter, and more!

The Winner of the Second Sunday Sketches #40 is...

Sharon Bramlett! Congratulations, Sharon! Sharon is the winner of the 40th Second Sunday Sketches card sketch challenge! Your prize, a mystery embellishment pack from my retired product cache and 3 handmade cards, will be in the mail on Tuesday. September 6th, 2022. 

I love how Sharon added texture to her birthday card by using the hexagon embossing folder. Her color palette is cheerful and bright! I also like how she used the gold cording behind her layered scalloped oval greeting!

Check out the other entries for the 40th Second Sunday Sketch card challenge. I love how Toni echoed the orange in the fox on her stripes of designer series paper and on her card base. The fox is so cute too! I love how Toni placed the fox to one side and the greeting to the other. How awesome is Tracy's otter card with the layers of waves and hexagon die cut windows?!?! Pat did an amazing job layering the sail boat punch with the water scene designer series paper. The sail boat looks like it is sailing in the designer series paper! I can imagine sailing on the water during sunset. Donna used a combination of designer series paper and embossing folder to create her floral thank you card. One side of her card has flowers and the other has leaves. Donna's color palette is happy and vivid!

The Winner of the 39th Second Sunday Sketches is....

Tracy Reed! Congratulations, Tracy! Tracy is the winner of the 39th Second Sunday Sketches card sketch challenge! Your prize, a mystery embellishment pack from my retired product cache and 3 handmade cards, will be in the mail on August 2nd, 2022.

How adorable is this horse peeking over the brick wall?!?! I love how Tracy moved the greeting rectangle to the center area and put it on an angle. What a fun way to add whimsy to a card! Well done, Tracy!

Donna created a focus medallion with a metallic snowflake and a stitched circle die cut with the three wise men embossed in gold. Donna, your card is stunning! I love the added touch of the musical designer series paper. It really emphasizes the Christmas spirit! 

Pat used a scalloped circle punch for her circle on the sketch and added a sweet friendship greeting and flower punch out. I love how she echoed the colors in the Tea Boutique designer series paper in the card base and in the flower. 

Toni used the scotty dog punch in her circle element. He is so cute! I love how Toni added pearls in the corners on her greeting rectangle! So beautiful! Well done everyone! Thank you so much for participating in the 39th Second Sunday Sketches!

I really like how Toni used the In Color designer series paper as the background and as the horizontal rectangle across the lower card front! She used two colors through the card - Basic White and Orchid Oasis to create a beautiful hello card!


Check out the other entries for the 38th Second Sunday Sketch card challenge. I love how Donna spotlighted the hummingbird! Donna stamped onto Very Vanilla cardstock with the hummingbird and the floral images. The she die cut an oval from the Very Vanilla cardstock, die cut a layering scalloped oval, and raise both ovals on dimensionals. She placed some of the hummingbirds wings outside of the oval. It gives the appearance of depth and dimension like the hummingbird is coming out of the card! Donna also used a piece of ribbon to represent the horizontal rectangle in June's card sketch. How creative and stunning!

Pat created a z-fold card with the horizontal rectangle along the bottom of her birthday card. Let me just say how clever that is! Pat interpreted the horizontal rectangle on June's card sketch as the mechanism for a z-fold card! That is amazing, Pat! The flowers are cut from the designer series paper and arranged like a bouquet on the card front. How gorgeous!

Second Sunday Sketches #38 Starts Today

 

It is time for another Second Sunday Sketches challenge! If you are new to Second Sunday Sketches, please review the rules here or below. Each second Sunday of the month, I will post a card sketch. A sketch is graphic or drawing of how the elements of a card are arranged.

You will then use the sketch as a guide to create your own card. Your card must be a new creation and reflect the challenge guidelines. Your card must include the major elements of the card sketch, such as the number of layers and the general position of the embellishments and/or die cuts. You can rotate the sketch for a top-folding card or for a side-folding card.

You choose the occasion and the color palette as well as the stamp set(s) and the embellishments. I do ask that you use Stampin' Up! products (current or retired).

The measurements will also be included in the blog post for each Second Sunday Sketches sketch challenge. You can use the measurements as given or increase them or decrease them. For example, if a greeting is stamped on a 1" circle on the sketch, but the greeting you choose is 1-3/4", then increase the size of the circle to 1-3/4". You can also change the shape. Instead of a circle, you can use an oval, a square, a daisy punch, a monogram, etc.

The challenge will run from the second Sunday of the month until the last day of that month.

June's challenge will run from June 12th, 2022 until June 30th, 2022 at 5pm EDT.

If you would like to participate in the Second Sunday Sketches sketch challenge, please create a card using the sketch above and email me a photo of your card by June 30th, 2022 at 5pm EDT with the subject line Second Sunday Sketches Entry.

Prize Drawing

The day after the last day of the month (July 1st), I will place all of the names of the participants in a proverbial hat and randomly draw a winner. The winner will receive a prize (US Residents only)! The prize each month will change and will be announced at the start of each challenge. June's Second Sunday Sketches sketch challenge prize is a surprise embellishment pack from my retired product cache and three hand-made cards from me.

Winner Announcement

If you are the winner, I will notify you by email. Please respond to my email with your complete mailing address, and I will mail you your prize! If the winner does not respond to my email within 7 days, I will draw another winner.

I will also post all of the entries on my blog (with your names attached to the photos) and the name of the winner.

Some Ideas on How to Make this Card Sketch Your Own

There are many ways to change this card to make it your own! You can rotate the card layout 90 degrees, change the oval to another shape like flowers or letters, make a z-fold card with a 2nd z-fold piece along the bottom to look like the horizontal rectangle like my mom suggests, use your favorite designer series paper or stencil as the 1st Mat, use embossing folders to add more texture to a mat layer, and more!

What a beautiful friendship card Pat made! I love how she added a layer of Old Olive cardstock underneath the banner and the floral pattern from the Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper! It makes the designer series paper really stand out!

She used the deer die from the Dashing Deer dies instead of flowers on her Christmas card and added embossing to her banner with the Hammered Metal embossing folder. Donna creates stunning cards! Toni made all three variations on this month's sketch with the Pierced Blooms dies. I love how Toni used three different color palettes for each of her three beautiful birthday cards and made clusters of flowers with jewels in their centers!
