May Good Things Grow Center Stair Card

Spring weather and spring flowers have been on my mind these last few days. It has been so cold and dreary here! I cannot wait until spring when the ground begins to warm, the flowers and plants are beginning to push through the dirt, and all thoughts of snow are a distant memory. Today's card is a springtime center stair fun fold card using the Dragonfly Garden stamp set.

 

The wildflower stamp is my favorite stamp in this set! I love the echinacea flowers and the little daisy-like flowers! The stamp reminds me of a sketch you would see in a natural field notebook or from a botanist.

There are many ways to arrange the front of this fun fold. I chose the center panel as the focal point and made the center panel layer extend down the card front in order to highlight the long wildflower image. You could also cut cardstock layers for the sides and for the bottom instead of stamping them.

 

 

Here is a view of the center stair card from the side. The stair shape is easier to see from this angle. This card stands up on its own very well, making this fun fold a great display card option! I can see this fun fold would make a great get well card, birthday, or Christmas card to display by the bedside, on a table, or on a mantel!

 

 

On the inside of the card, I repeated the wildflower image, leaving plenty of room to write a sweet message of encouragement to a loved one!

 

 

On the close up of the inside of the card, you can see the soft texture that the watercolor pencils bring to this delicate wildflower image!

Second Sunday Sketches #34 Starts Today

 

It is time for another Second Sunday Sketches challenge! If you are new to Second Sunday Sketches, please review the rules here or below. Each second Sunday of the month, I will post a card sketch. A sketch is graphic or drawing of how the elements of a card are arranged.

You will then use the sketch as a guide to create your own card. Your card must be a new creation and reflect the challenge guidelines. Your card must include the major elements of the card sketch, such as the number of layers and the general position of the embellishments and/or die cuts. You can rotate the sketch for a top-folding card or for a side-folding card.

You choose the occasion and the color palette as well as the stamp set(s) and the embellishments. I do ask that you use Stampin' Up! products (current or retired).

The measurements will also be included in the blog post for each Second Sunday Sketches sketch challenge. You can use the measurements as given or increase them or decrease them. For example, if a greeting is stamped on a 1" circle on the sketch, but the greeting you choose is 1-3/4", then increase the size of the circle to 1-3/4". You can also change the shape. Instead of a circle, you can use an oval, a square, a daisy punch, a monogram, etc.

The challenge will run from the second Sunday of the month until the last day of that month.

February's challenge will run from February 13th, 2022 until February 28th, 2022 at 5pm EST.

If you would like to participate in the Second Sunday Sketches sketch challenge, please create a card using the sketch above and email me a photo of your card by February 28th, 2022 at 5pm EST with the subject line Second Sunday Sketches Entry.

Prize Drawing

The day after the last day of the month (March1st), I will place all of the names of the participants in a proverbial hat and randomly draw a winner. The winner will receive a prize! The prize each month will change and will be announced at the start of each challenge. February's Second Sunday Sketches sketch challenge prize is a mystery embellishment pack from my retired product cache and three hand-made cards from me.

Winner Announcement

If you are the winner, I will notify you by email. Please respond to my email with your complete mailing address, and I will mail you your prize! If the winner does not respond to my email within 7 days, I will draw another winner.

I will also post all of the entries on my blog (with your names attached to the photos) and the name of the winner.

Some Ideas on How to Make this Card Sketch Your Own

There are many ways to change this card to make it your own! You can rotate the card layout 90 degrees, change the stars to another shape like flowers or letters, use a splatter of dots to make a background, use texture stamps to create a scattered image background, use embossing folders to add more texture to a mat layer, and more!

How fun is the Sweet Conversations Designer Series Paper that Toni used as the center of her card!?!? The larger red heart sweetly echos the smaller hearts on the patterned paper. I love how her larger red heart is embossed too! I also really like that Toni stamped on Highland Heather cardstock and not just Basic White or Very Vanilla cardstock. Beautiful!

Check out the other entries for the 33rd Second Sunday Sketch card challenge. How amazing is Tracy's card!?! The dotted heart embossing folder is so sweet! Tracy's color palette is perfect for Valentine's Day! Angling the banner across the heart die cuts is so smart! The layer of Basic White cardstock for the greeting on top of the Real Red banner adds depth and makes the greeting shine! Gorgeous!

I love how Pat fussy cut the greeting from the Crane of Fortune stamp set and how she framed some of the Symbols of Fortune Designer Series Paper with the circle dies! I love the chrysanthemum patterned designer series paper too! 

Speaking of framing, did you see how Candy also framed her designer series paper on the left and on the right of her card? The flowers on the designer series paper are positioned so that some are sticking out from the right and from the left sides of her card! How perfect! So beautiful! I really like the thought that goes into all of your cards - they are not just about the layout but also about adding texture, interest, and a bit of sparkle to enhance the overall design.
