Sea of Textures Shaker Card

Today's card is an aquatic scene shaker card that I designed for my Stamp of the Month Class. Shaker cards has a definite wow factor! However, they are not as complicated to make as they look.

To build a shaker element, first die cut the largest stitched square framelit. Then sponge the entire die cut square lightly with Pool Party ink. Stamp the seaweed images in Garden Green ink. Then sponge the fish in Pacific Point ink using the negative image of the fish framelit.

Tear a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock randomly to create a sandy ocean floor. Adhere the sand to the bottom of the stitched square die cut. Be careful not to add too much glue that it will ooze out the sides of the sand, so that the Tranquil Textures Sprinkles have room to shake around and not get stuck on the glue.

Adhere the seaweed plants and the coral. Then add a few pearls along the sand to create more interest. This aquatic scene could be an element on its own for a sampler too!

On a piece of Thick Whisper White cardstock, stamp the long texture stamp with Night of Navy ink several times, covering the entire piece of cardstock. Then die cut the center of the square with a smaller square framelit to create a frame.

Layer the shaker elements together. Adhere a piece of Window Sheet to the back of the frame. Rub the back of the Window Sheet with an Embossing Buddy to help reduce static inside the shaker element.

Then add Foam Adhesive Strips around the back of the frame. Sprinkle some Tranquil Textures Sprinkles (Item #146337) on top of the aquatic scene. Remove the adhesive backing strips and adhere the frame to the aquatic scene. Then adhere the shaker element to the card front.

Die cut both sizes of sand dollars from Whisper White cardstock and lightly sponge around the edges with Crumb Cake ink. Add the two sand dollar die cuts to the lower right side of the shaker element.

The inside repeats the coral and seaweed die cuts featured in the shaker element.

I hope you give this shaker card a try! You can find measurements and a supply list at the end of this post.

Thanks for stopping by!

Tea Time Telescopic Card

My mom and I stamp and craft a lot together whether we are far apart or in the same town. We like to give each other challenges with a particular type of card or 3D project to try. This time it was my mom's turn to choose the project. She chose telescopic cards.

Telescopic cards are cards that have many pieces linked together that fold up into one shape, usually concentric circles or concentric ovals. The links can be a piece of string, a brad, a fancy paperclip, or other embellishment that can keep the parts attached to each other and can swivel to unfold.

For my project I chose to use the Layering Circle Framelits (Item #141705) and the Time for Tea Product Suite. Starting with the topmost circle and going downward, each circle is progressively larger than the last, so that when the card is closed, all of the circles layer on top of each other like a child's stacking ring toy.

I used the 3rd largest scalloped circle framelit, the 3rd largest circle framelit, and the smaller doily framelit for the topmost circle.

I used the 2nd largest circle framelit and the larger doily framelit for the middle circle.

I used the largest scalloped circle framelit and the largest circle framelit for the bottom circle.

To connect each of the circles together, I used the Metallic Brads (Item #146929) and a 1/8" hole punch (Item #134365). I lined up the bottom most edge of the topmost circle with the topmost edge of the middle circle, punched a hole, and secured the two circles with a brad. I lined up the bottom most edge of the middle circle with the topmost edge of the bottom circle, punched a hole, and secured the two circles with a brad.

Once everything was connected, I attached a loop of Tea Room Ribbon (Item #146893) to the back of and a bow to the front of the topmost circle.

This circle would also be adorable as a snowman or a Santa! How cute would it be to send to a niece, nephew, or grandchild! I hope you give Telescopic Cards a try! You can find a supply list at the end of this post.
