July's Paper Pumpkin is Here!

My Paper Pumpkin kit arrived! I was looking forward to seeing the projects this month. In fact, my mom received her kit before I did, and I couldn't resist asking her for a sneak peek! Seeing her kit made me even more excited to receive mine.

I like all of the cards in this month's kit, but my favorite card is the Sailing Home birthday card! Not only is it a summertime-themed card, it is great for masculine cards (and feminine cards). I know I struggle with making masculine-themed cards. I also like that all of these card designs could be considered suitable for both genders and a multitude of ages.

You know I am a fan of versatility, and these cards fit the bill! Switch the greeting stamp for the greeting stamp of your choice on the Come Sail Away card (the leftmost card pictured above), for an all occasions card. The Woven Threads card (the center card pictured above) would be used as a thinking of you card or an I'm sorry we lost touch card. The Garden Lane card (the rightmost card pictured above) could be great for an appreciation card, a promotion recognition card, a thank you card, and more.

I am over the moon about how the Happy Birthday stamp in this project kit coordinates with the Sailing Home stamp set! To me, this stamp is worth the price of the kit alone!

There are a lot of coordinating colors in July's project kit! Not all of the colors are on each card design, so they are not overwhelming. The colors are similar in tone and close to each other on the color wheel, making them harmonious and the project pieces more interchangeable on each card design.

It is easier to mix and match all of the project pieces included in the kit between the three card designs and between the three coordinating Product Suites - Woven Threads, Come Sail Away, and Garden Lane.

Paper Pumpkin creates a video tutorial each month taking you step by step through each project. It is like having a Paper Pumpkin class in the comfort of your own home!

The projects are beautiful and well thought out, however you don't have to stick with the instructions. You can mix and match the cardstock pieces, die cuts, and embellishments with products that coordinate with the three product suites or any Stampin' Up! products you have! Stay tuned for some alternative projects! I have some fun ideas!

Second Sunday Sketches #03

It is time for another Second Sunday Sketches challenge! If you are new to Second Sunday Sketches, please review the rules here or below. Each second Sunday of the month, I will post a card sketch. A sketch is graphic or drawing of how the elements of a card are layed out.

You will then use the sketch as a guide to create your own card. Your card must be a new creation and reflect the challenge guidelines. Your card must include the major elements of the card sketch, such as the number of layers and the general position of the embellishments and/or die cuts. You can rotate the sketch for a top-folding card or for a side-folding card.

You choose the occasion and the color palette as well as the stamp set(s) and the embellishments. I do ask that you use Stampin' Up! products (current or retired).

The measurements will also be included in the blog post for each Second Sunday Sketches sketch challenge. You can use the measurements as given or increase them or decrease them. For example, if a greeting is stamped on a 1" circle on the sketch, but the greeting you choose is 1-3/4", then increase the size of the circle to 1-3/4". You can also change the shape. Instead of a circle, you can use an oval, a square, a daisy punch, etc.

The challenge will run from the second Sunday of the month until the last day of that month.

July's challenge will run from July 14th, 2019 until July 31st, 2019 at 5pm EST.

Here are a few samples of how I interpreted this card sketch using the Daisy Lane Bundle (Item #151118) and the Animal Outing stamp set (Item #151281).

There are many ways to change this card to make it your own! You can make the square larger or smaller, add another layer/mat behind the square, or change the square to a circle or oval. Instead of a greeting in the lower right corner, stamp an image such as a flower or add a row of rhinestones.

Wild Rose Demonstrator Team Treat Holder

I like to spoil my demonstrator team members when they attend our monthly demonstrator team meetings in person. For this month's meeting I made a treat holder featuring the To a Wild Rose Bundle and the Delightful Tag Topper Punch.

I am a huge fan of the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch, especially for treat packaging! When I saw the new Delightful Tag Topper Punch in the 2019-2020 Annual Catalog, I had to see how it stood up to my trusted Scalloped Tag Topper Punch! I have to say, the Delightful Tag Topper Punch is a winner and a wonderful addition to my treat packaging supplies! I can see many more projects with both punches, for sure!

Today's basic design was originally used with the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch a few years ago by several different demonstrators. Each demonstrator used similar or different measurements, but the idea of the tag topper punch and the belly band remained the same. I was inspired by Kimberly Smith's treat holder using the Delightful Tag Topper Punch and the Sailing Home Designer Series Paper for the measurements and the layout. I just had to create my own version of this fabulous treat holder!

Instead of using already printed Designer Series Paper for the belly band, I created my own Designer Series Paper using the outline leaf stamp and the Granny Apple Green Stampin' Blends Combo Pack (Item #147274). 

I colored the leaves with the Dark Granny Apple Green Stampin' Blend first. I scribbled in the center of the leaves in a loose, free flowing way with the brush end. Then I colored around the Dark Granny Apple Green with the Light Granny Apple Green Stampin' Blend's brush end. Finally, I made small circles on top of where the Light and the Dark Granny Apple Green section met, creating a slightly darker area of Light Granny Apple Green.

When I think of the stamp set To a Wild Rose, I think of my trip with my aunt to Ireland and standing on the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare with my hair blowing in the wind and looking across the Atlantic Ocean. So, I colored both the leaves and the roses very loosely and more casually. I used the brush end of the Stampin' Blend to further the effect.

Below is a template showing the treat holder base and the belly band with measurements and scoring information.

Treat Holder Tips:

• I recommend cutting and scoring your treat holder base before punching the ends to get straight, even ends. 
• I also recommend assembling the belly band and slipping it onto the treat holder base instead of trying to wrap the belly band around the treat holder base.
• This treat holder can hold two Hershey chocolate nuggets, a few Ghirardelli chocolate squares, or several Hershey kisses.
