How I Store Cardstock and Cardstock Scraps

I like to store my 8-1/2" x 11" cardstock in clear job ticket holders like Jennifer McGuire. I also like to keep my scraps with the full sheets of cardstock.

Cardstock sheets in a clear job ticket holder

I found my job ticket holders at my local office supply store, but you can also find them online. I have used the regular thickness and the heavy duty thickness over the last several years. I find both thicknesses to be well-suited to holding a full pack of solid cardstock (24 sheets) as well as a full pack of Basic White cardstock (40 sheets) plus scraps.

Storing my scraps with my full sheets of cardstock helps me

  • to remember what color that scraps are,
  • to use the scraps on a more regular basis, and
  • to not feel as if I am wasting as much paper.

I save small and large scraps. I like to die cut and punch different shapes, especially for treat holders and for classes. So, it makes sense for me to save smaller pieces too. I allow myself a period of time to keep it to see if I use and then toss after that time period is up without judgment (but limited to only one job ticket holder per color of cardstock).

Once I have more scraps in the clear envelope than full sheets of cardstock, I re-evaluate what scraps I still have.

empyting out the paper scraps from the job ticket holder

I take all of the scraps out of the job ticket holder and sort them. If I haven't used it and it is a smaller scrap, I will toss it.

sorted paper scraps

Then I put a new pack of full sheets of cardstock into the job ticket holder, followed by the remaining scraps (if there are any, and sometimes there isn't).

clear job ticket holder refilled with cardstock sheets and scraps

Keeping scraps is a personal choice and even which scraps to keep can vary from crafter to crafter. What size(s) of scraps one keeps can range from teeny tiny to not having scraps smaller than 3" square.

Your crafting style can help you determine which scraps you keep and which you toss. If you do a lot of small die cutting, it may be beneficial to keep smaller scraps. If you do a lot of larger sized cards and die cutting, it may be beneficial to keep more of the larger scraps. This can even change as your crafting style changes or the types of projects you are making changes.

How do you store your cardstock? How do you feel about scraps? Do you keep scraps? If so, do you store them with your full sheets of cardstock or in a separate storage system? I would love to hear how you store your cardstock and scraps! Leave me a comment below!

Organizing: Embossing Powder Storage

One of my goals this year is to de-clutter, use up, and reorganize my craft room. It has gotten incredibly messy! So, messy that I am embarrassed to share a photo of its current state! Yikes!

Craft with Beth: Stampin' Up! Embossing Powder Storage Organization Reorganization Sistema Containers

I am working on each section, bin, and drawer in my craft room until it is fully organized! Today I worked on reorganizing my embossing powder storage. Stampin' Up!'s embossing powders come in adorable little containers. They take up almost no space at all. So, why would I need to change that?

I would love to be able to say that I can pour every last bit of embossing powder right back into the tiny clear jar when I am done embossing, but I can't. I make quite the mess. Embossing powder is everywhere even if it was no where near that area of my craft room.

Craft with Beth: Stampin' Up! Embossing Powder Storage Organization Reorganization Sistema Containers

I originally stored my embossing powders in square sandwich containers with a blue lid, but they took up too much precious storage space, were an awkward size, and had to be stacked to fit in the drawer. I needed to find a better way to store my embossing powders.

I was inspired by Jennifer Mcguire's way of organizing her most used-embossing powders. I purchased smaller but taller snack containers from the Container Store. These containers are also available online and in the grocery store (I just happened to be in the Container Store when I saw these were in stock). These containers take up less than half of the space the sandwich containers did, don't have to be stacked, and help minimize the mess when in use. I also like that they have clear lids. That way, I can see exactly how much embossing powder is left in each container and know when to order more.

I used a label maker to label the front of each container as well as the top of each container, so that no matter which side of my desk that I was working on or when I taught a class, I could see exactly which embossing powder was where. This was especially useful when we used the copper embossing powder and the white embossing powder during my Lovely Lily Pad class last Friday. No one accidentally used the wrong embossing powder for their projects (even though they would both be beautiful on out cards!)!

Craft with Beth: Stampin' Up! Embossing Powder Storage Organization Reorganization Sistema Containers

I store my embossing powders in an Alex drawer unit from Ikea that fits underneath my desk. So, the label on the top of the container is also helpful when I pull out the drawer to find whichever embossing powder I need for my project.

I use a smaller spoon to scoop out the embossing powder onto my projects. The taller sides of these containers keeps the powder from getting all over my desk. I also use a coffee filter underneath the containers to catch any mess that does make it onto my desk.

How do you store your embossing powders? I would love to hear how you organize your embossing powders and stamping supplies! Please leave a comment below (click on the pencil icon)!

Custom Stampin' Write Marker Storage

I recently updated my Stampin' Write Marker storage when my previous organizational cardboard drawer unit collapsed after all these years! I am so excited to share with you my custom Side by Side Marker unit from Stamp-n-Storage!

Craft with Beth: Stampin' Up! Stamp-n-Storage Custome Side-by-Side Marker Unit craftroom craft room storage organization marker markers

I wanted something that was easy to access for current Stampin' Write Markers that would store my retired Stampin' Write Markers and other coloring tools as well as be more durable.

I really like the Storage by Stampin' Up! customizable units. The ink pad and marker combo trays are fabulous! However, I organize my crafting supplies by type. I have stations and areas for die cutting, stamping, cardstock, coloring tools, etc in different parts of my craft room.

So, the next place I thought of was Stamp-n-Storage! They have quality, hand crafted organizational units for papercrafters of all types!

Craft with Beth: Stampin' Up! Stamp-n-Storage Custome Side-by-Side Marker Unit craftroom craft room storage organization marker markers

I really liked the Side by Side Marker unit, but didn't want ALL of my Stampin' Write Markers on display. I set to work making modifications. I drew a line version on my computer of what I was thinking of. I modified the original Side by Side Marker unit by widening it and changing 8 of the rows into 2 removable drawers. Widening the unit made it possible to store some of my markers in drawers instead of in rows without making the unit too deep to access the markers that I did want to display.

I sent my line drawing and request to Brett, one of the owners of Stamp-n-Storage, inquiring if these modifications were possible.

Craft with Beth: Stampin' Up! Stamp-n-Storage Custome Side-by-Side Marker Unit craftroom craft room storage organization marker markers Stampin' Blends Ink Pad Holder for Color Families Collections

I am a big fan of Stamp-n-Storage! I love my Color Collection Ink Pad Holder and Stampin' Blend Units! They have made working in my craft room more efficient, tidier, and prettier! So, you can imagine how overjoyed I was when Brett said yes to my custom request!

I was overjoyed even more when my package arrived! Seeing my modifications come to life and knowing that someone made this with their hands was just amazing!

Craft with Beth: Stampin' Up! Stamp-n-Storage Custome Side-by-Side Marker Unit craftroom craft room storage organization marker markers

The top drawer holds my retired Stampin' Write Markers. This drawer can hold up to 54 Stampin' Write Markers! Wow! I sure tested it! It can also hold ink refills, Stampin' Blends, smaller ribbon spools, washi tape, and more!

Craft with Beth: Stampin' Up! Stamp-n-Storage Custome Side-by-Side Marker Unit craftroom craft room storage organization marker markers

The bottom drawer holds my spritzers and my Aquapainters. Because I hold a lot of classes, I have multiple packs of Aquapainters. You can never have too many spritzers either! Once you fill one with ink refill or shimmer paint, you need another one to fill with water!

I like that these drawers are removable and wide enough to hold a variety of stamping supplies, so that as my needs change, this side by side marker unit can grow with me.

Craft with Beth: Stampin' Up! Stamp-n-Storage Custome Side-by-Side Marker Unit craftroom craft room storage organization marker markers

Here is how I filled the bottom portion of my customer Side by Side Marker unit. Starting with the first row and going down, I placed
  • the Brights Collection Stampin' Write Markers and chalk markers,
  • the Subtles Collection Stampin' Write Markers and retired metallic markers,
  • the Regals Collection Stampin' Write Markers and journaling pens,
  • the Neutrals Collection Stampin' Write Markers,
  • the 2019-2021 In Colors Collection Stampin' Write Markers and the 2018-2020 In Colors Collection Stampin' Write Markers,
  • Basic Black Stampin' Write Markers,
  • and the Blender Pens.

Craft with Beth: Stampin' Up! Stamp-n-Storage Custome Side-by-Side Marker Unit craftroom craft room storage organization marker markers

There even is an empty row at the bottom of the unit for any duplicate current markers or future purchases!

I cannot say enough good things about Stamp-n-Storage! I am so thankful to Stamp-n-Storage for customizing their Side by Side Marker unit for me! I have been working hard reorganizing my craft room lately and plan on purchasing a few more Stamp-n-Storage pieces!

You can see the original Side by Side Marker unit and all of Stamp-n-Storage's products in their online store. Check what else they have to help you organize your craft room!

I hope you enjoyed this post! Please leave a comment below (click on the pencil icon)! I would love to hear from you!

Choosing and Storing Your Clear Acrylic Blocks

I use Clear Acrylic Blocks in almost all of my stamping projects. Whether they are holding a stamp, acting as a painter's palette for ink refills, or for weighing down two pieces of cardstock when gluing, they are my most used stamping tools!

Craft with Beth: Stampin' Up! Storing Your Clear Acrylic Blocks Storage Organization Stamping

Stampin' Up! carries a multitude of Clear Acrylic Block sizes! They come in 9 different sizes, ranging from 1-3/16" to 6". They are named A through I.

I Block

$12.00

With all of these choices, how do I know which blocks are best for me? Think about how you stamp. Do you use one stamp at a time or do you like to use several all at once? Do you craft for a particular project or do you allow for creative play or both?

When I sit down to craft, I like to put all of the stamps that I will be using on their own Clear Acrylic Blocks. That way everything is set up and ready to go. I don't have to wait to clean the stamp before continuing with my project. If the stamps are attached to their own blocks, I am less likely to misplace a stamp on my work surface or on the floor.

Two-step stamping is more efficient with each stamp on its own block! I don't have to repeatedly clean the same stamp if I want to try many layering combinations. If I am playing and testing color palettes, I may try several stamps in the same color before settling on a design choice.

Also, once I am finishing stamping for the day, I can clean all of the stamps at once, put them away, and know that all of my stamps are put back in their cases. No stamps are stuck on the lamp or my pencil caddy waiting to be cleaned three weeks later.

What are your stamping needs? Are you a hobbyist, a craft fair vendor, a demonstrator, a combination of all three? I am both a hobbyist and a demonstrator. I teach a lot of classes, private lessons, retreat days, and workshops, so it is also very helpful for each stamp to have its own block for the duration of the lesson or event!

Craft with Beth: Stampin' Up! Storing Your Clear Acrylic Blocks Storage Organization Stamping

I have collected many of each size over the last six years. I have 4 A Blocks, 4 B Blocks, 3 C Blocks, 4 D Blocks, 2 E Blocks, 2 F Blocks, 4 G Blocks, 3 H Blocks, and 2 I Blocks.

How do I choose which size block is suitable for my needs? The more I use each stamp set, the more I identified which blocks fit my stamps and which were helpful for the techniques that I like to do. My favorites are B, C, and D because the majority of my stamps fit on them. Many sentiment stamps fit perfectly on a G Block, so I have several on hand for each of the projects in my classes. A Blocks are perfect for little flowers, the fox and cat face stamps, and little doodads to embellish a project. I have two F Blocks for background stamps and for painting techniques. I hope to add a few more B, C, and G Blocks soon!

If you subscribe to Paper Pumpkin, a D Block is fantastic to have because all of the Paper Pumpkin stamps will fit on a D Block size or smaller.

If you are not sure which Clear Blocks to purchase, look at the sizes of your stamps. What size block do most of your stamps fit on?

Craft with Beth: Stampin' Up! Clear Acrylic Block Mount Template Thumbnail Image

Download and print this clear block size template to help you determine which size works best for your stamps. Lay the stamp on top of each of the blocks until the desired block size is identified. It is ok if the block is somewhat bigger than the stamp just be sure not to put the stamp on a block that is too big or too small, so that you stamped images are crisp and clear and not pick up extra ink on the clear block itself. You can also print this on a clear acetate sheet, so that you can determine which clear block sizes work best for the stamps in the catalog.

Craft with Beth: Stampin' Up! Clear Block Storage Caddy

How do you want to store your clear blocks? Do you want a single block of each size or wish to carry one of each block to a scrapbook retreat or vacation?  If so, than Stampin' Up!'s Clear Block Storage Caddy may be the perfect solution for you! The Clear Block Storage Caddy holds one of each of the nine clear block sizes nestled in a piece of protective foam and ready for home or on the go stamping! It also fits perfectly inside of a desk drawer!

I keep my Clear Acrylic Blocks in a small plastic storage bin that can be found at many office supply stores. I keep this bin on my desk in my craft room. I can see and reach for what I need quickly. The bin is very portable. I can bring it to the classes I teach, to another room in my house, or even to a friend's house. If I ever don't want the bin on my desk, I can store it in a drawer.

Craft with Beth: Stampin' Up! Storing Your Clear Acrylic Blocks Storage Organization Stamping

Each of my blocks have a little clear plastic label with my initials to identify my blocks when I go to OnStage, a friend's house, hold a workshop, or a stamping retreat. I used my label maker to print tiny labels that fit in the grooves of each block. One of my dear customers shared this helpful tip with me!

I built my Clear Acrylic Block collection over a period of a few years, adapting as I grew in my stamping as a demonstrator. The more I stamped, the more I found my personal style and what worked best for me.

How do you store your Clear Acrylic Blocks? Do you have one of each block or several? I would like to hear how you organize your stamping supplies! Leave me a comment below or post a photo of your stamping organization on my Facebook page today!
