Number of Years Birthday Card Class

My mother's birthday is in a few weeks. I wanted to make a card that was extra special because she is so special. It had to be something spectacular. Currently, she is in love with all things banner. I decided to combine a card and a banner together!

I made an accordion-style card full of celebratory candles and a matching box. This is such a memorable card that I wanted to share it with you in a class!

The class will be held on Saturday, March 19th from 1pm to 4pm. The cost is $10. Supplies are included. Please bring a bone folder, glue stick, SNAIL Adhesive, and scissors. Light refreshments will be served. Please contact me to sign up! Space is limited. Please RSVP no later than Wednesday, March 16th. I can't wait to create this heart-warming birthday card with you!

February Monthly Meeting

Last night's monthly demonstrator's meeting was a great success! We made two fantastic projects. The first one uses three different stamp sets. The sentiments in the balloons are from the new Sale-A-Bration set Party Pants (Wood-mount Item #141324 & Clear-mount Item #141327). This is a great set to have for birthdays, congratulations, and thinking of your projects. The balloon strings and Happy Birthday sentiment are from Balloon Celebration in the 2016 Occasions catalog. The background is a piece of Whisper White card stock embossed with the Confetti TIEF and lightly sponged in Tempting Turquoise to bring out the embossing even more.

Inside the card is stamped with two stamps from the Sale-A-Bration set Perfect Pairings (Wood-mount Item #141258 & Clear-mount Item #141261).  What a cheerful and festive card!

The second project we made was an adorable tag perfect for Easter presents and treats! I can see this tag tied to a Curvy Keepsake Box or to a Polka Dot Cone Cellophane Bag filled with jelly beans! The bunny is from Friends and Flowers in the 2016 Occasions catalog.

We demonstrated the new Sale-A-Brations Metallics Glitter Tape (Item #141020). Below are samples of each color: silver, gold, and Melon Mambo, Tempting Turquoise, and white (from top to bottom).  The Melon Mambo and Tempting Turquoise Glitter Tape strips were originally white and sponged with ink! How fabulous! Metallics Glitter Tape is a stunning, must have embellishment!

We also demonstrated a few techniques and fun folds. I will be sharing those with you soon in future posts.

Here are the cards from our swap! Aren't they gorgeous?!

Party Wishes Card Swap

The card swap theme for tomorrow's monthly meeting is the 2016 Occasions catalog. The challenge is to make ten cards using products in the Occasions catalog. The finished cards could incorporate items such as DSP, stamp sets, and embellishments. I chose to use the Party Wishes stamp set and the coordinating It's My Party Designer Series Paper.

March is quickly approaching! With so many of my family members' birthdays in March, I thought this was a great way to get a head start and complete this month's swap theme. I made enough for the swap plus a few extra.

I came up with five different combinations for this simple layout. To conserve this adorable paper, I selected DSP that paired well on both sides. It was hard to choose just one!

For the swap, I chose the piece with the Melon Mambo stripes on one side and the confetti on the other side. I cut the entire sheet into 2" strips. Then I cut ten 2" x 2" squares for the presents. Once the presents were cut, I cut 1/2" x 2" rectangles to make the ribbon in the middle of the present. Next I punched the bows. All ten presents and bows used only one piece of DSP! Woohoo!

I used grid paper to help straighten and center the little rectangle of DSP on the present.

Line up the present with the ruled edge. Here I lined it up between the 8" mark and the 10" mark, but any inch mark is fine. To center the rectangular strip on the present, first find the midpoint. The midpoint is 9".

Then add 1/4" to the midpoint to find the starting mark and subtract 1/4" from the midpoint to find the ending mark. One-quarter inch less is 8-3/4". One quarter-inch more is 9-1/4".  So, to center the rectangular strip place it between 8-3/4" and 9-1/4".

Put some glue or SNAIL on the rectangle. Starting at the bottom of the rectangle, line it up between 8-3/4" and 9-1/4". Press the bottom down. Use the same grid lines above the present to guide you, continue to line up and adhere the rectangle. This tip takes the guesswork out!

In the Meadow Gate Fold Card

Building on yesterday's theme, here is another gate fold card. The stamp set is called In the Meadow from the 2016 Occasions catalog. This is a great stamp set for anniversaries, Valentine's Day, or birthdays. In the Meadow could be fantastic for masculine cards too.

Instead of the glimmer star, the card is kept closed with two antique brads.

You can make a gate fold card with an 8 1/2" x 11" or a 12 x 12" piece of cardstock. To recreate the card above, use an 8 1/2" x 11" piece of cardstock. Using your Paper Trimmer, cut it in half vertically. This yields 2 pieces that are 4 1/4" x 11" each. Rotate 1 piece sideways, so that the 11" edge is at the top and the 4 1/4" edge is on the side. With the scoring blade, score at 3" and at 8 1/2". This is the base of your card.

Cut four 2 1/2" x 4" pieces to make the Hello Honey DSP mats. Attach to the outside left and right panels and to the inside left and right panels on the card base.

Cut a 4" x 5 1/4" piece of Whisper White cardstock for the inside center. Stamp the sentiment "day after day, year after year" in the center. Attach to the center panel inside the card base.

Cut a 3 1/2" x 2 1/2" piece of watercolor paper to stamp and watercolor the deer on. Stamp the deer, grass, tree, and butterflies. Using the aquapainters, color in the deer, grass, tree, and butterflies. Allow to dry.

Cut a 3 3/4" x 2 3/4" piece of Cajun Craze cardstock for the mat around the watercolor. Once the watercolored, stamped image is thoroughly dry, attach it to the Cajun Craze mat.

Cut a 1 3/4" x 1/4" piece of Whisper White cardstock for the sentiment on the outside. Stamp the sentiment "To someone who is great to be around..." in the center.

Cut a 2" x 1/2" piece of Cajun Craze cardstock for the mat around the sentiment. Attach the sentiment to the Cajun Craze mat.

Position your watercolored, stamped image and sentiment in the center of the closed card base (as photographed above). Once you are satisfied with the placement of each, apply SNAIL Adhesive or Liquid Glue to ONE side of the stamped image and to ONE side of the sentiment. Attach both the image and the sentiment to the card base.
