Second Sunday Sketches #25 Starts Right Now!

Craft with Beth Second Sunday Sketches graphic title graphic banner card sketch challenge with measurements
It is time for another Second Sunday Sketches challenge! If you are new to Second Sunday Sketches, please review the rules here or below. Each second Sunday of the month, I will post a card sketch. A sketch is graphic or drawing of how the elements of a card are arranged.

Craft with Beth: Stampin' Up! Second Sunday Sketches sketch card sketch challenge sample graphic

You will then use the sketch as a guide to create your own card. Your card must be a new creation and reflect the challenge guidelines. Your card must include the major elements of the card sketch, such as the number of layers and the general position of the embellishments and/or die cuts. You can rotate the sketch for a top-folding card or for a side-folding card.

You choose the occasion and the color palette as well as the stamp set(s) and the embellishments. I do ask that you use Stampin' Up! products (current or retired).

The measurements will also be included in the blog post for each Second Sunday Sketches sketch challenge. You can use the measurements as given or increase them or decrease them. For example, if a greeting is stamped on a 1" circle on the sketch, but the greeting you choose is 1-3/4", then increase the size of the circle to 1-3/4". You can also change the shape. Instead of a circle, you can use an oval, a square, a daisy punch, etc.

The challenge will run from the second Sunday of the month until the last day of that month.

Happy 2nd Anniversary!

May is Second Sunday Sketches' 2nd year of posting monthly sketch challenges. Can you believe it has been 2 years?!?  Since it is our 2nd Anniversary, I thought, why not double the fun! Double the prizes, double the entries, and double the sketches.

For May 2021's sketch challenge:

  • Your May card entry counts as two entries. I will add your name twice on the prize wheel.
  • There will be two prizes. The Opal Rounds and the 3 handmade cards plus a Mystery Bag from my own personal stash of retired stamping goodies! It could be stamp sets, a bundle, tools, never opened embellishments, and more!
  • In addition to May's sketch, you can also get another spot on the prize wheel by making a new card using any of the previous Second Sunday Sketches from #1 through #24.

Card Sketch

Below is May's card sketch.

Challenge Dates

May's challenge will run from May 9th, 2021 until May 31st, 2021 at 5pm EST.

If you would like to participate in the Second Sunday Sketches sketch challenge, please create a card using the sketch above and email me a photo of your card by May 31st, 2021 at 5pm EST with the subject line Second Sunday Sketches Entry.

Prize Drawing

The day after the last day of the month (June1st), I will place all of the names of the participants in a proverbial hat and randomly draw a winner. The winner will receive a prize! The prize each month will change and will be announced at the start of each challenge.

May's Second Sunday Sketches sketch challenge prize is Item #154289 Opal Rounds and three hand-made cards from me.

Craft with Beth: Stampin' Up! #154289 Opal Rounds May 2021 Second Sunday Sketches #25 card challenge sketch challenge prize graphic

And, since, we are doing everything in two's this month, I am adding another prize - a mystery bag from my personal retired stash. It could be a stamp set, a bundle, embellishments, and more! The mystery bag will contain either brand new embellishments and/or brand new or gently used stamp sets. I keep my stamps and tools very clean and in fantastic condition.

Winner Announcement

If you are the winner, I will notify you by email. Please respond to my email with your complete mailing address, and I will mail you your prize! If the winner does not respond to my email within 7 days, I will draw another winner.

I will also post all of the entries on my blog (with your names attached to the photos) and the name of the winner.

Some Ideas on How to Make this Card Sketch Your Own

There are many ways to change this card to make it your own! You can rotate the card layout 90 degrees, change the hearts to another shape like flowers or letters, add a mat layer beneath the hearts, make the hearts into negative die cut spaces, use a stencil, use embossing folders to add more texture to a mat layer, and more!

Pat, your card is amazing! I like how you used designer series paper on the outside and the inside of the card base. I also like how your wood grain designer series paper echoes the color of the area behind the stamped front door! Beautiful! Your card is a lovely congratulatory card that I know the recipient will appreciate too!

Check out the other entries for the 24th Second Sunday Sketch card challenge. I love that many of the entries were gate fold cards and used a variety of focal images in the center of the card - the magnolia bloom, a window scene, and a front door! I also love how Candy used two different techniques on the front of her card. She used an embossing folder with sponging on one side and sponged designer series paper on the other side.

Mystery Stamping Card Revealed!

Monday's Mystery Stamping was a big hit! I sent every attendee the same measurements and supply list to gather their supplies and cut their papers before the event. Then during the event I gave oral only directions on how to put the card together and didn't show my sample card until the end.

Art Gallery Birthday Card Floral Flowers Fine Art Floral Designer Series Paper DSP Mystery Stamping Event

I created a simple card layout that didn't have a lot of pieces. This is one of the layouts that I had in designed for my Second Sunday Sketches, but it was a little too similar to sketch #6. However, it is perfect for mystery stamping!

This is a simple layout is the foundation for your creativity. It can be jazzed up with some rhinestones, a bit of ribbon, and more! Or, rearrange the pieces for an entirely new look.

Art Gallery Birthday Card Floral Flowers Fine Art Floral Designer Series Paper DSP Mystery Stamping Event thank you card

Even though all attendees had the same measurements and types of supplies, we all chose something different. No two color palettes were alike. No attendee chose the same stamp sets. No one made the same layout. It was wonderful!

I love the inspiration that mystery stamping provides. You see the same card in an entirely new way!

Art Gallery Birthday Card Floral Flowers Fine Art Floral Designer Series Paper DSP Mystery Stamping Event thank you card

I used the Art Gallery Stamp and Die Bundle to create a birthday card and a thank you card. There are so many beautiful ink color combinations that you can create with Art Gallery! I stamped the solid flower image with Flirty Flamingo ink stamped off and the detailed flower image with full strength Poppy Parade. Poppy Parade has, unexpectedly and repeatedly, been one of my favorite colors for these flowers!  The burst of bright red is so cheery and refreshing!

I would love to hear what your favorite ink color combinations are. Leave me a comment below with your favorite ink color combinations!

Thanks for stopping by!

The Field and Flowers Designer Series Paper (a Sale-A-Bration exclusive!) coordinates perfectly with the Pretty Perennials Bundle! This particular pattern is one of my favorite patterns in this designer series paper stack! It is bright, cheery, and ready for springtime weather and flowers! I love how Candy framed the stamped greeting and the word die with the layered cardstock rectangle and tied in the designer series paper with the cascading leave die cuts and flower stamped image! Beautiful!
