For this week's Halloween project, I created four different Halloween treat boxes - Frankenstein's Monster, a ghost, a jack-o-lantern, and a bat.
All four TakeOut treat boxes are made using the TakeOut Thinlits featured on page 50 of the 2018 Holiday Catalog.
These takeout boxes are a fabulous size for small treats such as chocolate kisses, hard candy, candy corn, gummies, and more. For non-candy treats, this box is perfect for fun-shaped pencil erasers, little action figures, small puzzle pieces, money, and even small pieces of jewelry! I like that last option!
Frankenstein's Monster's hair is free-hand cut from a rectangle of Basic Black Cardstock and Paper Snips. The excess is trimmed after the hair is adhered to the box. His eyes are 1/2"-circles. His mouth and scar are drawn with a Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker.
On the back, I drew a spider coming down from the top of his head.
The ghost's face also uses 1/2" circles and the Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker.
I drew a basic triangle and half circle jack-o-lantern face, but you could draw or cut out shapes from cardstock in any facial expression that you would like. He could be frowning or showing a mouth full of teeth or booing. Your creativity is limitless.
The top of the stem is cut on an angle to give a more natural appearance. One end of the leaf ribbon is adhered underneath the stem to hide the rough ribbon ends. The stem is also set back on top of 1 box closure tab, so that you can open the box without ripping the stem.
The bat treat box looks complicated but is super easy! The bat takes more steps than the other boxes, but this sweetie is worth it!
The ears are made from cutting a Classic Label punch out in half and then folding each half in half. Folding them again creates a tab, so that the ears can adhere more easily to the box and can stand up on their own. Here is how I did it.
The wings are made from one 2-1/2" circle cut in half and then punched along the flat side with a 1"-circle punch. It can be tricky to eyeball where you want each punch in the wing to be, so I adhered a 1" circle in a contrasting color where I wanted to punch. That way my bat wings came out more symmetrical.
The wings are adhered to the sides of the box with a strong dry glue, such as glue dots(r) or liquid glue.
I love how these TakeOut Treat Boxes turned out! I can't wait to deliver these for Halloween!
These are just 4 Halloween ideas using the TakeOut Thinlits. What Halloween characters will you create? I would love to see what you make!
You can find the measurements and a supply list at the end of this post.
Thanks for stopping by!
