Timeless Tidings Tarnished Foil Technique

Today's project is a card I designed for my Technique Tuesday Class. This month we focused on the Tarnished Foil Technique. Tarnished Foil Technique is a way of layering metallic embossing powders and darker inks over dry embossed metallic foil paper to achieve a worn or aged metallic look.

I first learned about this technique from Melissa Kerman. However, I am not certain if she is the originator of this technique or if she learned it from another stamper.

The Tarnished Foil Technique is too striking to cover up, so I wanted to create a card that made the technique the focal point. I came up with this Christmas present card using the Tin Tile Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (DTIEF) and the Timeless Tidings stamp set.

I absolutely am in love with original tin tile ceilings, especially tiles with a darkened patina! I even tried to convince my husband to add tin tiles to our decor! The Arts and Crafts style and the Victorian style is right up my alley. So, I was beyond thrilled when Stampin' Up! came out with a tin tile embossing folder!

Look how incredible the copper, gold, and silver blend together! The Jet Black StayzOn Ink distressed the tile present even more.

The Merry Merlot and Copper Reversible Ribbon is a perfect addition that ties beautifully with the Merry Merlot cardstock and the Copper Foil Paper!

Friendly Octopus Double Embossed Card

I am having such a fun time playing with the Sea of Textures Bundle! Today's card is a card I designed for my Technique Tuesday Classes. My layout was inspired by the metal ring wreaths that have been so popular on Pinterest(r) lately. Instead of flowers, I used the octopus image.

My Technique Tuesday Class is all about building your stamping skills. Each month we have a main technique, then I sprinkle in mini-techniques to boost your skill sets.

August's main skill focus was on two embossing folder techniques - faux letterpress and double embossing. Above is the double embossed Sea of Textures card I designed for my class. You can see the un-embossed area inside of the circle surrounded by the Seaside Embossing Folder embossed area on the Soft Seafoam mat. The Crumb Cake circle frame delineates the two areas.

The mini-techniques I shared were masking and how to create circular frames with the Layering Circle Framelits.

For the inside of the card, I chose a greeting from the Pretty Kitty stamp set. The octopus looks like he is coming to say hi! He is so friendly looking!
